"BOLTED ON" or "PRESSED
ON"
To perform a viscous fan
clutch removal two wrenches are needed. One wrench to remove the fan clutch
and the other to hold the water pump pulley stationary.
Two different styles of holding
wrenches are needed when holding water pumps. One type is for water pumps
that have the pulley bolted on and the other is for newer style water pumps where
the pulley is pressed on.
For bolt on style pulleys,
the #61600 Universal Water Pump Pulley Holding Tool is used. This tool was
designed to hold many different configurations of bolt sizes, bolt patterns
and number of bolts holding the pulley to the water pump.
Newer style water pumps on
Chrysler and GM applications are pressed on. There are no bolts to hold
the water pump stationary when removing the viscous fan clutch as in the
bolt on style. The pressed on pulleys have small holes in their face that
a "pin" style pulley holder can be used to hold the water pump
stationary when removing the viscous fan clutch. The "pin" style
wrenches are #99800, #61500 and #63600.
